Question Best Graphics Card Rs.15-20K

I bought a HIS ATI 4850 from Galaxy a while back for Rs.16500. I don't regret the decision at all. Perfectly happy with 4850.

But I just checked out XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB DDR3 Standard, BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB PCIe 2.0, Inno3D GeForce 9800GTX 512MB, and a few others.

This (my specs in signature) is my first PC which I've built and I'm just wondering if I could've done better. Especially in the graphics card area where I could've spent upto Rs.20000.

When it comes to building gaming pcs it never ends, nor does the money, and the general rule is you can always do better as companies keep pumping out new products and versions of cards so often. My advice is if games are running fine and smooth, just relax and enjoy playing without the worry of constantly upgradding.

well as immad said...9800 GTX+ PWNS...but ur current card competes with it pretty well...tell us what resolution u game on?

I personally think that ya could have done much much much better by going for a higher AMD proc....im not necessarily sayin the Phenom...but atleast 5000+ and preferably 6000+....i feel that 4600+ is bottlenecking ur graphics card...

1024*768. Ans yesss, the freakin processor! Should have a 5000+ at least. But I'm waiting to upgrade to Phenom. Once they get their supposed revised editions out.

lol. yes, ive got a cr-freakin-t monitor (philips 107S6). it sucks. but i'm saving up...

and won't call myself a GAMER. at all. just someone who likes to play games.

waisay just to know, do clock speeds generally determine the better card? if so, isn't the 9800gtx+ way better? [(4850: 625,993) (NVIDIA: 740,1100) right?]

plus my card runs HOT. i mean HOTT. if i let it run on its default profile, the gaming temperature reaches 100C+ EASILY. normal temperature is 80C+. But I've adjusted the fan speed and the gaming temperature is 75C and normal 55C. But still. Fan too small.

Those are perfect temps....after setting the fan speed...and yes core speeds do tell ya which is the better card...but noit only that...there are stream processors and stuff.....maybe immad can comment on this...hes a pretty experienced guy in GPUs....

and since ya moderately game...this card will lest ya 2+ years easily....but dude...about the processor...u know what to do....

if u arent playing games much then 55 and 75 are regular temperatures
however 80 and 100 are overboard..i had (at one point) 2 9800gx2 sittings one over the other and both of them barely touched 90 in gaming mode with sli enabled so there's a possible cause that the airflow in ur casing is not adequate

unless u decide to play games at very high end the specs in ur sig will do considerable fine...i dont know why shajeel tells everyone to upgrade without realizing what their needs are

as far as the fan is concerned u can look into changing the stock fan to something after market like maybe an arctic cooler..i'm sure there is something available to change the fan....but my suggestion to u would be check ur casing for air flow...put a couple of more fans in it to direct air in and out and u will notice that ur computer over all will run cooler and faster
